However in order to achieve this, the reports have suggested that the next generation iPad could be thicker to accommodate the dual-bar LED backlighting. A thicker iPad would seem to go against Apple’s design philosophy which so far has placed a lot of emphasis on smaller and thinner designs.
Now thanks to a new report from Digitimes, it would appear that Apple may have solved the problem of the added thickness by turning to IGZO panels as opposed to IPS displays. Apparently IGZO technology would allow a resolution of up to 330 dots-per-inch without the need for dual-bar LED backlighting found in IPS displays.
Of course it should be noted that Digitimes’ reports have been more miss than hit these days, but IGZO panels seems to be in line with what Jeffries analyst Peter Misek claimed back in November, which was that Apple would most probably partner up with Sharp on the new IGZO displays.
Once again we should probably remind you to take all of this information with a grain of salt until we actually hear/see something from Apple themselves.
