AMD looking to enter ultrathin market Q1 2012

According to a recent interview that AMD gave with The Australian (requires a subscription), it would seem as though AMD has plans to enter the ultrabook game themselves. However it is obvious that they will not be using the ultrabook name as it is a term coined by their competitor, Intel, and that they could be entering the market come January of 2012.

It seems that AMD has been having discussions with a variety of manufacturers at the possibility of creating Ultrathin (AMD’s version of the ultrabook) devices, and one of which has become “particularly advanced”. If you’re looking for a clue as to what sort of devices AMD could be launching, you might want to take a look at the Lenovo S205 which is a pretty thin notebook running on AMD’s Fusion CPU.

However it is very likely that AMD’s Ultrathins will be running on a different processor, but as to what that processor is remains to be seen for now. What do you guys think? Could AMD’s offerings be more appealing than what Intel has shown so far?
