Yes, when we talk about supersonic weapons, it involves winged aircraft or a projectile that travels far faster than that of sound – five times faster in fact, in the latest weapon that was tested by the US Army. Also known as the Advanced Hypersonic Weapon (AHW), it was fired from the military’s Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai at about 1:30 a.m. The weapon itself took less than 30 minutes to arrive at Kwajalein Atoll which is located around 2,300 miles away, making this a highly impressive weapon. Of course, disregard the sonic tank from the classic Dune 2 game on the computer which you see on the right hand side, it is just there for illustration purposes as I have a real soft spot for the game.
Ultimately, the Pentagon wants the Advanced Hypersonic Weapon to fly for long ranges within the earth’s atmosphere at speeds that are at least five times the speed of sound. I guess their dream is being willed into reality, and while more tests are required, it would only be a matter of time before the AHW is perfected into one mean killing machine. Who’d dare mess with the country that has the most AHWs then?
