Toyota recalls 550,000 vehicles around the globe

Toyota did gain quite the reputation as a reliable vehicle that delivered plenty of bang for your hard earned buck, but recent times have seen the motor vehicle manufacturer drop a notch from their previously lofty perch. Well, today is not about bouquets but brickbats rather, where the Japanese motoring giant is said to recall around 550,000 vehicles from around the globe. Most of these would be from the US, and the beef with the recall would be issues which could make them harder to steer.

Here is the breakdown of the recall exercise – 447,000 vehicles in North America, 38,000 in Japan and another 25,000 in Australia and New Zealand, at least that is what Toyota spokesman Dion Corbett mentioned. As for our friends living across the pond, around 14,000 vehicles will be recalled, alongside 10,000 in the Middle East and 14,000 in Asia outside Japan. Toyota has already received around 79 reports concerning this defect dating to 2007, and while no reports of accidents or injuries related to the problems have occurred, Toyota plays it cautious this time around by sticking to the adage that prevention is better than cure.

Those living Stateside and are affected will see Toyota mail them a notification to make an appointment with an authorized dealer so that their vehicle can be inspected the moment enough replacement parts have been produced.
