Spotify to allow 3rd party app access?

Spotify has got a press conference coming up tomorrow, and besides the clue about the company heading in a “new direction”, we don’t really know what it’s going to be about. However the folks over at All Things D believe that the music streaming service is likely to announce “The ability to let third-party developers tap into Spotify’s music library and make it available to their own users – as long as those users are already paying Spotify for a premium account.”

Spotify has been reported to have spent most of fall discussing the aforementioned plans so it’s likely to be the topic of discussion at tomorrow’s event. However, it’s still up in the air because it’s uncertain whether Spotify will require permission from labels in order to allow such services to happen. But seeing how it’s an extension of Spotify and is only available to paying subscribers it might not be a big deal. But apps that have access to Spotify through the use of APIs will probably help propel the service stay on top of the music subscription game.
