Sony Ericsson will upgrade 2011 Xperia portfolio to Ice Cream Sandwich

Of all the OEMs that create Android devices in the market today, it sure looks like Sony Ericsson is one the hardest working ones around. After receiving a whole lot of flak last year when it announced that some of its devices wouldn’t be getting Android 2.2 Froyo, the company pretty much turned over a new leaf by getting Gingerbread on most of their Android phones. Sony Ericsson also started providing instructions online to Xperia owners who wanted to unlock their phones’ bootloaders. And now we’ve got more great news.

Sony Ericsson has officially announced that it plans to upgrade its entire 2011 Xperia portfolio to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. This means the Xperia arc, Xperia arc S, Xperia Play, Xperia neo, Xperia neo V, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active, Xperia ray and the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will all be getting the update. While no timeline has been set or promised, it does bode well for Xperia owners who are worried about their phones being left behind. Props to Sony Ericsson for living up to expectations when it comes to its Android phones. Maybe it can achieve its dreams of being the largest manufacturer of Android phones after all.
