SkyLight turns your smartphone into a microscope display

Microscopes are useful tools when you need to examine something tiny, but using them can get pretty tiring with you to placing your face in an uncomfortable position to look down the scope. Well, we previously had solutions that output what you see onto a large display, but those are pretty costly to purchase. What if you could use your own smartphone to do the job instead? Well that’s where the SkyLight comes in.

The SkyLight is an adapter that lets you connect your smartphone to microscopes, which in turn lets you use the large display of the mobile device to observe what’s happening under the lens. And since it’s on your smartphone, you can use any app to record what you’re looking at, snap photographs or even share what you’re looking at through a video conference, email, Twitter or Facebook. And if your smartphone has video output capabilities HDMI/DLNA, you’ll even be able to share what’s going on with a bigger display.

The SkyLight is made from light plastics and weighs only 4.9 ounces, making it easy to bring around as well. Its universal compatibility with any microscope and smartphone makes it a handy device to have for folks who are tired of looking down a microscope. Unfortunately the project is still crowdsourcing for funds so it might never see the light of day.
