Sharp Aquos SH-01D makes a pit stop at the FCC

A recent FCC filing has revealed that the Sharp Aquos SH-01D may be headed our way soon. The device was originally announced in Japan, and half the time those phones never make it stateside, which is kind of a pity since some of Japan’s smartphone offerings are usually on the more interesting side.

The FCC filing did not reveal anything new about the phone, although we’re guessing certain Japan-only features have been removed, such as the built-in TV tuner feature that is common on most Japanese smartphones. As far as the rest of its hardware is concerned, the Sharp Aquos SH-01D will sport a 1GHz dual-core processor under the hood with 1GB of RAM, a 4.5” 1280×720 glass-free 3D display, a whopping 12.1MP camera and will be water resistant.

The handset will also run on Android’s Gingerbread 2.3 as its platform of choice. No word on which carrier will be picking this up or if Sharp has any plans to release this phone at all in the US, but let’s hope that the FCC filing for approval may be an indication of what’s to come.
