Kindle Fire gets CyanogenMod 7
CyanogenMod 7 (CM) is one of the most popular Android custom ROMs around and it’s available on a large number of devices – both phones and tablets. Well, if you own an Amazon Kindle Fire we’ve got some good news for you – the device has recently been added to the list of devices that support CM7. As usual, the CM7 build is still in its early stages, but if you’re not a fan of the Amazon UI that’s plastered over the Kindle Fire and you want an enhanced version of regular Android Gingerbread – this custom ROM is for you.
At the moment, quite a number of features aren’t working properly i.e. touchscreen, and you’ll lose your integrated Amazon features if you install the ROM, but important features like WiFi are available, which should make the tablet pretty usable. If you’re feeling adventurous and want to give your Kindle Fire a makeover, head over to XDA-developers for more details. Remember to back up your tablet before attempting anything risky, and make sure you know what you’re doing beforehand.
