iPad 3 to use new backlight design?
Word on the street has it that Apple’s next generation iPad (let us call it the iPad 3 for the moment) will rely on a new backlight design for its HD resolution display – although this is just a rumor at time of publishing, and nothing has been confirmed yet. It seems that sources close to a couple of LED backlight vendors from Taiwan let the cat out of the bag, claiming that they migh tjust have to change the way the future iPad will use its backlight.
Two alternative solutions will require different manufacturing processes so that the purported 2048 x 1536 resolution will remain consistent at all times. At the moment, the iPad 2 relies on a single LED light bar although its successor looks set to receive modifications that will maintain and strengthen the brightness of the panels. In all probability, Apple could either keep the light bar as a single-bar, or introduce a couple of two LED chips, or make use of dual-LED light bars.
Which option do you think Apple will choose?
