Honda Fit EV to launch in Summer of 2012

If you like the look of the current Honda Fit model, the good news is that come Summer of 2012, you will be able to get your hands on an EV model of the car if you live in California or Oregon. However for those living in the East Coast, you will have to wait your turn as the Honda Fit EV will only arrive to six markets in the East Coast in 2013.

So what can we expect from the Honda Fit EV? Well for starters it will feature a 20-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery, a high density 92-kilowatt coaxial electric motor and a 6.6-kilowatt, 32-amp charger that is said to allow for convenient recharging. Honda is also claiming that when the car is hooked up to a 240-volt charging port, the Honda Fit EV can be charged to full in three hours, and a fully charged battery is said to give an estimated driving range of 123 miles.

It seems that Honda is playing it safe with the Honda Fit EV, and have announced that the company will only commit to a production of 1,100 units over the first three years. The car will set you back $36,625, but alternatively you will be able to lease the vehicle for $399 a month. Any takers?
