Google Doodle celebrates the 60th anniversary of Stanislaw Lem’s first book

Google has been spending a lot of effort making awesome doodles recently, with its recent Les Paul Doodle coming to mind. Well it looks like the company has done it again, with today’s Google Doodle for its Polish website. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Stanislaw Lem’s first book, the company has put up a Doodle in the form of an HTML5 game which lets users control a man with a striking resemblance to the man, who works together with some sort of fly like creature to collect parts to build a robot.

For those not in the know, Stanislaw Lem is a Polish writer well known for his science fiction novels that have been translated into many languages and sold all over the world. He was best known as the author of Solaris, a novel which has been made into a feature film three times. He is said to be one of the most widely read sci-fi writers in the world.

I played through the Google Doodle game once and found myself being thoroughly impressed with the graphics and the animation. If this is the future of HTML5, we’re definitely heading in the right direction towards a Flash-free world. Head over to Google.pl to check out the game for yourself.
