Sony recalls 1.6 million Bravia TVs

If you bought yourself a Sony Bravia television set back in 2007, there’s a slim chance that your television set could be at risk of catching fire. So far there have been 11 reported cases of Bravia television sets catching fire in Japan since 2008, which has prompted Sony to recall about 1.6 million Bravia television sets.

The reason why the Bravia television sets have been recalled is due to a backlight component inside the TV, which when overheated could cause the upper casing to melt. The model numbers of the eight Bravia television sets sold after 2007 are: KDL-40D3400, KDL-40D3500, KDL-40D3550, KDL-40D3660, KDL-40V3000, KDL-40W3000, KDL-40X3000 and KDL-40X3500.

While the overheating incidents have been isolated to Japan, perhaps in an effort to play it safe and cover their bases, Sony is urging their customers not to use their television sets for now and to contact them immediately, especially if you’re such a customer and you see your television’s model number above.
