Nokia World is hours away, and it looks like the cat is out of the bag already (well, technically, the Nokia Lumia 800 had leaked last week, and it was even officially teased on U.K television). According to winrumors, Nokia is going to announce two Windows phones, the Nokia Lumia 800 and the Nokia Lumia 720. The Lumia 800 looks like a Windows Phone 7.5 (aka Mango) version of the cool-looking Nokia N9 which runs on Symbian. The Nokia Lumia 710 has roughly the same footprint than the Lumia 800, so it will be interesting to see how different they are and what sets them apart. WinRumors got the exclusive on this one.
Obviously, we don’t yet know about the full specifications of the phones. They are partially visible here, but the juicy bits have been left out. What we do know is that the Nokia N9 comes in both GSM and CDMA versions, has an AMOLED display, 1GB of RAM, and an 8MP camera. Now, it has been rumored that ST-Ericsson would be the silicon vendor for these new phones, so we’ll see if that’s going to be true.
The last time I checked, I noticed that ST-Ericson favored high-frequency dual-core chips over quad-core desgins, so that’s what I would *hope* to see tomorrow, but rumors have it that the N800 will have a 1.4Ghz processor (single-core?) and 16GB of storage.
What do you think of those designs? The Lumia 800 is my favorite, and I think that the clean design is a great match with the Windows Phone “metro” user interface.
Get back to Ubergizmo tomorrow (Oct 26), and we’ll have some hands-on photos and first impressions. This is Nokia’s moment of truth, so don’t miss it.
