Good news Motorola Droid RAZR owners-to-be! It looks like the company will be offering an official bootloader unlocking solution for the upcoming device, which means that rooting your device and installing custom ROMs, mods, apps, etc should prove to be a relatively easy affair, or at least the very least save you one extra step.
It seems that despite Motorola’s claims that they will be unlocking the bootloaders for their Android devices, the Droid RAZR will be the first smartphone in their arsenal to offer an official solution, which is good news as official solutions tend to be a much safer way of unlocking your device’s bootloader, and should allow newbies to experience custom ROMs and deep customization of their Android handset.
There is a catch however, and that is carriers will have the option of removing that function, with Verizon having opted to take it out. This probably has something to do with security, since a locked bootloader tends to make the device more secure, plus we’re guessing that Verizon is probably not happy with their customers removing the bloatware that usually comes with carrier-locked devices.
We’re not sure if other carriers in other parts of the world feel the same, but for now, Motorola Droid RAZR owners-to-be in the US will not be having an official bootloader unlocking solution for now.
