Mitsubishi Diamond Vision OLED semi-spherical display is out of this world
[CEATEC 2011] Curved displays are definitely something worth looking at – it is somewhat mesmerizing in its very own way just like how a child walks through the glass tunnel of an underwater world for the first time in his/her life. Well, Mitsubishi’s effort with the curved display you see here definitely makes most hearts skip a beat the first time they see it in action. Known as the Diamond Vision OLED, this semi-spherical display has a diameter of 2.7m, and I would suppose that they have had experience with this kind of hardware before considering the rather large OLED globe which sees action in Tokyo’s National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation at the moment.
Back to the Diamond Vision OLED – this model will sport a grand total of 696 OLED panels, where they are individually sized at 32mm x 32mm. Sized at 96 x 96mm, the OLEDs that form the aforementioned globe are definitely larger in all ways, although sharing the same 3mm pixel pitch.
Mitsubishi claims that the Diamond Vision OLED will sport a brightness level of 1,200cd/m2, drinking up 11.2kW of power in the process. Can you think of any creative ways to use this as a digital signage system?
