HTC Android devices experience gaping security hole?
If you happen to be rocking to HTC smartphones that run on the Android operating system, then you might want to be careful as it seems as though HTC’s latest software that is installed on smartphones such as the EVO 3D, EVO 4G, and Thunderbolt amongst others, collects a whole lot of personal information on behalf of HTC – that includes email addresses, the synchronization status for each email account, your last known network and GPS locations, a limited previous history of locations, your collection of phone numbers from the phone log, SMS data, system logs and other private information.
This is clearly a massive breach of privacy, and other worms exposed in this can include the apps being vulnerable to exploitation and exposure, including the build number, build number, bootloader version, radio version, kernel version, IP address, CPU information, the works!
It does seem as though HTC set up their prying environment on purpose, and we still don’t know what they are going to do with all the personal information and details gathered up to date. It would be nice to hear from HTC’s side just what they are up to though – and the explanation had better be a good one. Motorola and Samsung’s offerings are more than decent alternatives if you’re spooked.
