Just when we thought there was hope for the BlackBerry PlayBook after RIM’s recent announcements of the 2.0 update – it looks like all those dreams might come crashing down. According to BGR who claims to have exclusive insider details about the operating system update – we won’t be seeing it anytime soon. The BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 OS update is said to be arriving sometime mid-February 2012, with the 17th being a possible date.
Apparently there are numerous problems that are causing this delay. One of them is the implementation of core BlackBerry apps (email, calendar, BlackBerry Messenger) into the QNX platform because of the way RIM handles BlackBerry accounts. At the moment they’ve never allowed more than one device PIN per BlackBerry account, hence the inability to use your PlayBook PIN for your email and BBM service at the same time.
At the moment, the only solution would be two independent BBM apps with different contact lists. I guess auto-syncing of the two accounts could help solve problems if RIM can’t get the same BlackBerry account working on two different devices simultaneously.
As usual, take this news with a pinch of salt, but if I were you, I wouldn’t be holding my breath for the PlayBook 2.0 OS update.
