With the release of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, a bunch of 15″ and 17″ MacBook Pro notebooks from the 2010 range actually experienced fatal crashes, and these happened without any prior warning or signs. It could very well result in either a kernel panic message or simply a blank display – hence the Black Screen of Death moniker. Apparently, the fault lies with the MacBook Pro’s Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, and Nvidia 330M graphics cards, where the firmware or driver could be the culprit responsible for this fiasco.
Even with the latest Mac OS X 10.7.2 update, the same problem persists – never mind that you run Windows 7 on Boot Camp. Apple has yet to release a definitive game plan in addressing this bug, but it might be far more complex than a new driver update, hence the apparent delay. Hopefully a solution will come sooner rather than later.
