Yale does NFC with their door locks
Yale is one of the more trusted names when it comes to door locks, and with a wealth of experience behind the company, we are not surprised to see them roll out a new consumer-grade NFC-enabled door lock – so you need not worry about not bringing your house keys out with you the next time, just ensure you have your smartphone with you. NFC (Near Field Communication) is picking up among the masses, where it will enable simple data exchanges between two devices in close proximity (a couple of cm normally).
Guess motorized door locks are on their way out, or at least the new fad would be NFC-enabled door locks. I do wonder, however, what happens when your handset runs out of juice – how then, are you supposed to be able to open up the door? Hopefully there is some sort of manual override, but that would mean carrying around another key – which more or less defeats the purpose. What do you think of such door locks – are you for them, or against?
