Sprint stops LG Optimus S Gingerbread update after running into issues

If you happen to be rocking to the LG Optimus S from Sprint, surely you were excited when you realized that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update was made available to the smartphone already – only to be hit with a whammy of a news byte as more than just a handful of Optimus S owners complained about the update being gimped, causing nothing but trouble with the Optimus S.

Having said that, Sprint has been duly notified by a growing number of disgruntled customers, and decided to put their foot down by halting the update, hoping to get their engineers working furiously to fix whatever issues that are connected to the Gingerbread release.

Just what kind of issues occur after the update? We’re talking about the phone’s battery not being able to charge at all, the inability to connect to data, and when you hook up the phone to a computer via USB, a message will appear to let you know that the microSD card is no longer mounted (or removed) when you didn’t even tough it. Those using Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 also reported that the device went unrecognized, making us wonder just what kind of tests did Sprint run before rolling out this update?
