Sony Tablet S cracked open, spills innards

The Sony Tablet S has had some pretty impressive advertisements introduced for it, and someone has already taken it apart to check out just what lies underneath the pretty cover and design. We all know that it will sport a dual-core processor, not to mention 1GB RAM, a couple of cameras that all decent tablets should come with these days, the staple Wi-Fi connection, as well as 16GB and 32GB configurations which will retail for $499 and $599, respectively.

One thing must be said about the Tablet S – the wedge-shaped exterior is very different from the rest of the tablets in the market, and many have claimed that it feels as though you’re holding a paperback book folded in half when the thick edge is placed in your palm. The Tablet S relies on an internal plastic frame to make sure the innards get adequate protection, while the NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and Elipda DRAM module seem to hail from the same IC package.

Not only that, the case is rather easy to open once the two external screws hidden under the back cover’s rubber feet are removed, and make sure you have a Phillips screwdriver around if you want to continue undressing the Tablet S. Nice to know its battery is replaceable, while the motherboard and case are 3G-ready just in case (pun not intended) there is some sort of third-party upgrade kit sometime down the road.
