Sharp Galapagos 5.5″ and 10.8″ gets the axe

In the competitive and cutthroat world of tablets, while sounding cliche, only the strongest survive, and so far (regardless of platform), Apple’s iPad is the tablet to beat with many companies coming out with supposed “iPad killer” tablets. Now the bad news for those who were hoping to get their hands on the Sharp Galapagos series tablets, is that Sharp has apparently decided to drop the 5.5” and 10.8” model from their lineup, instead choosing to focus on their newer 7” model.

Sharp announced that they would cease taking orders for the 5.5” and 10.8” Galapagos tablets, although the 7” model appears to be alive and well. At the moment it’s only available in Japan, although the good news is that Sharp has plans to bring it over to the US market this year.

A quick refresher for those who forgot, the 7” Sharp Galapagos tablet features a 7” display with a resolution of 1024×600. It runs on NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 dual-core process at 1.2GHz with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. It will also be sporting Android’s Honeycomb 3.2 for its choice of platform.
