NEC LaVie Touch heads for Japan

Folks living in Japan will be able to check out the NEC LaVie Touch tablet just in case their homes need an upgrade from an older generation of computers. What is so special about the LaVie Touch? Well, this is a tablet for starters, and it will be docked to a trio of hardware add-ons (which comes with the purchase, mind you, so you need not fork out additional dough to make sure you are able to make full use of it) to get you up and running right out of the box. Unlike many other tablets out there that fall under the Android banner, this particular model will run on Windows 7 Home Premium.

Remember that I mentioned the hardware add-ons? Those are a mix between a stand and a DVD-drive (also uninspiringly known as a “Multistation”), a wireless mouse and a wireless keyboard. You won’t be able to place your purchase just yet, but perhaps after looking through its list of specifications after the jump, you have a better idea as to whether to take the plunge or not.

Some of the specifications include a 10.1″ IPS LCD panel with 1,280 × 800 resolution, Windows 7 Home Premium, Office Home and Business 2010 to get you productive right away, an Intel Atom Z670 1.5GHz processor, an Intel SM35 Express chipset, 2GB RAM, a 64GB SSD, IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR connectivity, a 1.3-megapixel camera, a couple of USB 2.0 ports, HDMI out, an SDHC memory card slot, and up to 10 hours of battery life – although we believe that will be radically different for each individual, depending on what you use it for.

Expect to see the NEC LaVie Touch arrive in Japan next month for the equivalent of $1,230. Not cheap at all, but definitely attractive enough to tempt your wallet. [Press Release]
