MSI fan technology spits out dust

For the majority of us out there who use computers, we tend to keep things running cool using a heatsink and a fan (or two), but after a while, you would notice that clumps of dust will start settling down comfortably behind your computer’s chassis no matter how much of a clean freak you are. Opening up your computer’s case and horror of horrors, you will be greeted by dust bunnies that you never knew existed. MSI might just have the solution – and a simple one at that, which is to spin the fan in the opposite direction.

MSI decided to reverse the fan’s direction during boot-up, where it is said that this alone will help dislodge dust from the heatsink and the fan’s fins. Known as “Dust Removal Technology,” the fan will go full throttle for half a minute, which is sufficient enough to reduce the load temperature of an MSI graphics card from 67C (152F) to 52C (125F).

Currently, the Dust Removal Technology is only available on MSI’s top-of-the-range N580GTX Lightning Xtreme Edition (Nvidia GTX 580) graphics card, which is around $600 a pop, but thankfully for the rest of us, MSI intends to incorporate this feature in its upcoming graphics cards. If MSI has patented such technology or idea, then surely they have an edge in marketing their graphics cards down the road.
