HTC Flyer gets Honeycomb 3.2 update

The HTC Flyer is a pretty decent tablet based on specs alone, more so given that this is HTC’s first Android tablet. The downside is that unfortunately the stylus which is supposed to be optimized (and part of the experience) for the Flyer was initially sold separately and customers had to pay an additional $80 for the experience. It also came with Gingerbread, which is a great platform for smartphones, is perhaps not the most ideal for tablets.

The good news for HTC Flyer users is that Paul O’Brien from MoDaCo managed to get his hands on the Honeycomb 3.2 and Sense 1.1 for tablets update and has released a ROM for the Flyer. Apart from the fact that Honeycomb 3.2 has been optimized for tablets in the smaller variety (i.e. 7” tablets), it seems that the Sense 1.1 for tablets further incorporates the use of the stylus.

Unfortunately in order to install the ROM you would need your Flyer to be rooted, and according to Paul’s warnings, this ROM installation is recommended for experts only, so unless you know for sure what you’re doing (or what you’ve gotten yourself into), it’s best to wait for the update, which we’re assuming shouldn’t be too far off.
