Sounds familiar as though Hitachi rolled out something similar in the past? It has happened before, but Hitachi did take the time to make improvements by offering an almost identical version of the previous display which relies on amorphous silicon instead of low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) as its backplane material of choice.
It might sound like Greek to most of us, but the choice of amorphous silicon makes the final display far less expensive to produce compared to LTPS, without sacrificing much in terms of performance (negligible, really). When will see these new displays from Hitachi in action? Not too soon on a commercial level really, but at least we know display technology is moving in the right direction.
