After showing off its upcoming mobile operating system last week, Baidu has now got an OEM on board to help produce devices that run on the OS. The manufacturer in question? Dell. While it hasn’t been having a stellar track performance in the mobile device sector over in the US, the company hopes that it’ll be able to do better in China, where Baidu Yi (Baidu’s Android-based operating system) could do a better job of infiltrating the market than regular Android.
It has been reported that the first Baidu Yi device from Dell will be based on the Streak 5 (a phone that didn’t do extremely well in the US and was discontinued last month). But seeing Baidu’s popularity in China, combined with Dell’s large presence already in the country (with its computers and laptops) they might have a winning combination. However, Dell won’t be Baidu’s only partner, with Huawei said to be another potential partner for the mobile operating system as well.
