Comcast Internet Essentials cost $9.95 a month

The Internet should be available to everyone – according to Comcast’s belief, which is why they rolled out a cable Internet service that costs just $9.95 a month to subscribe to, targeting low-income families in order to give them an opportunity to take advantage of Internet connectivity in their homes. While this plan was originally rolled out in select areas of the US earlier this year, the same plan will now apply to all of the 39 states that Comcast operates in , including the District of Columbia.

Known as Internet Essentials, this low-cost plan normally costs in the region of $30 per month, so this is quite a significant savings. To qualify, you will need to be parent(s) to at least one child who receives free school lunches through the National School Lunch Program, in addition to not having subscribed to Comcast Internet service within the last 90 days and not having an overdue Comcast bill or unreturned equipment.

Download speeds will hit a cap of 1.5Mbps, while upload speeds max out at 384kbps – and this discounted fee will be on offer for up to a maximum of three years. While it isn’t the speediest option out there, it is enough for regular surfing and viewing videos on YouTube without interruption.
