Love getting all dressed up in a suit, and heading off to corporate meetings is your cup of tea? Well, then make sure you have the right kind of tablet device to go along with you, and an iPad is way too casual, while the BlackBerry PlayBook does have an air of authority, the lack of decent apps have proved to be its Achilles’ Heel. Hopefully Asus’ latest Eee Slate B121 business tablet will not suffer from that fate, as it intends to deliver power, portability and security features in a single device, targeting businesses, health care facilities, and other institutions as the market of choice.
You will not find Android running here, but rather, the Intel Core i5-470UM processor will be there to keep a copy of the Windows 7 Professional operating system chugging along nicely, delivering PC-like performance on-the-go. The clever use of an ultra-low voltage Intel Core i5 processor allows the B121 to remain a mere 0.67” thin, tipping the scales at only 2.56 lbs.
To make sure your precious data is secured, the B121 will offer different layers of security, with the Computrace LoJack-ready (that needs a subscription) being able to remotely delete data if you happen to lose your notebook, while a dedicated Theft Recovery Team will co-operate with local law enforcement to track and recover it. There is also the trusted platform module (TPM) where Windows BitLocker will work with, helping protect the operating system and user data.
In addition, the Asus B121 will ship with a 64GB SSD, 4GB RAM, a Bluetooth keyboard, a Wacom Digitizer stylus, a front-facing 2-megapixel camera, and a battery which is touted to run for 4.5 hours.
Other hardware specifications include a 12.1” LED-backlit multi-touch display at 1280 x 800 resolution with Corning Gorilla Glass to make it even more durable. Throw in a couple of USB 2.0 ports, mini HDMI output, a memory card reader (SD/MMC with SDHC/ SDXC) and a combo head-out/ mic-in audio jack, and you’re good to go. Just make sure you have $1,499 to bring this puppy home. [Press Release]
