Sony PlayStation Home virtual world to be redesigned?
Sony is mulling over whether to redesign their PlayStation Home virtual world, transforming it into a hub for social games in the process. For those who are not in the know, here is a little bit of clock rewinding – PlayStation Home first rolled out in 2008 as a virtual world for the PlayStation 3, sporting over 23 million registered users. As virtual worlds (Second Life, anyone?) is considered to be passe and social games being the next big thing, Sony draws on its experience in business strategy to transform PlayStation Home into a place where gamers are able to socialize while engaging themselves in social games – at least that is the vision that Jack Buser, director of PlayStation Home, has.
To put it in a nutshell, Home itself is going to become a game. The moment you log on into Home, your eyes will be greeted by games, and Sony first shared their plans for Home at E3 in June this year. Since then, the company has been working on improving the user experience, where the main focus of Home would be on a core group of hardcore gamers who love nothing but games, with these social titles intending to steal their attention from other ‘rivals’ such as iPhones games, Twitter, Facebook and even Xbox Live.
Expect the new version of PlayStation Home to hit the market this fall.
