The Korean Institute of Industrial Technology recently announced the completion of its latest robot, the SEROPI-2. Hailed as the successor to the first SEROPI robot, it has been given new features that its predecessor didn’t have. The SEROPI-2 is four feet tall, moves at 7.2 KM/H, can bend down to pick things up from the floor, has stereo vision, force sensors, a laser range finder, and a navigation system. It is also much sleeker than the original SEROPI, thanks to an improved design and the use of better materials.
The SEROPI is pretty versatile, seeing how it’s been used in children’s performances even though it was designed for tasks such as remote exploration, and health care. No word on pricing but I doubt it’s something that anybody could afford anyway. Check out some videos of the Johnny-5-lookalike robot in action:
