Samsung DROID Prime coming to Verizon? (Rumor)

According to BGR, it seems that they have learned from one of their sources that Verizon has plans to launch a new device known as the Samsung DROID Prime. Based on the name we can’t be sure if this has any relation to the Nexus Prime, the third Google Nexus device that apparently Samsung will be building.

If you remember, we reported that Verizon will be the only carrier out of the four major carriers in the US not to carry the Samsung Galaxy S II. At that time it was a bit puzzling as to why Verizon was passing up on what many considered to be one of the Android smartphones at the moment.

Thanks to BGR, they are claiming that the reason Verizon passed on the Samsung Galaxy S II was because they felt when the iPhone 5 comes out, the Samsung Galaxy S II would not be as competitive anymore, which is why they have opted to go with the Samsung DROID Prime, which apparently will be running on Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.

The model number is reported to be SCH-i515, so for those on the look out will want to keep that model number in mind. The device according to BGR’s sources is expected to launch some time in October. We can’t help but feel that perhaps the DROID Prime might end up being the Nexus Prime due to their names and also because they’re both expected to run on the latest build of Android – Ice Cream Sandwich.

Naturally this is just speculation for now, but what do you guys think?
