Remember the Android-powered car receiver, the Parrot ASTEROID, which we featured way back in January? Well, previously we didn’t have a price or a release date besides the vague “late 2011”. It looks like the car accessory is ready to make its way to the market soon enough, according to a press release from Parrot this morning. The Parrot ASTEROID has been scheduled to arrive in October 2011 and will have a recommended retail price of $349.
In case you’ve forgotten about what the ASTEROID is, it is the first car receiver that runs on the Android operating system (which seems to run on just about anything). Eschewing the need for a separate gadgets, the ASTEROID gives users access to maps for navigation (via a GPS dongle), driving assistance with Wikango (a speedcam warning app) and weather forecasts, voice-enabled text messaging/emails, TuneIn (internet radio) and of course the usual music playing capabilities through USB, SD cards, MP3 players and of course FM/AM radio.
