Nissan LEAF to receive BlackBerry and Android apps
Driving an electric car does have its benefits, such as not having to stop by one of those gas stations and filling ‘er up to the brim, burning a large hole in your pocket at the same time. Too bad electric vehicles aren’t all that powerful (unless you are a proud owner of a Tesla, of course), and they tend to have a rather limited range. Well, hopefully with improvements in the design and engine, things might change for the better in the future. We know that Nissan’s LEAF has done quite well for itself, and now the iPhone app for the LEAF is accompanied by a BlackBerry and Android app – letting you check the state of the battery charge right from your smartphone itself, in addition to other feature such as kick starting the charging process, obtain an estimated driving range, or even manipulate the climate control system.
Just make sure your Android-powered device is running Android 2.1 Eclair and above. That should not be too much of a problem methinks, and for BlackBerry owners, all you need to do is have BlackBerry OS 5 and you’re good to go. Regardless, you will need an active subscription to Nissan’s Carwings in order to access its full features.
