Microsoft applies for multi-screen, multi-touch gestures patent

What you are about to read are patents from Microsoft that have just gone public, although they have yet to be granted by the relevant authorities. It seems that in February last year, Microsoft sent in a bunch of patents related to touchscreen gestures that will see action on a tablet device. Most of these will have a role to play on a dual-screen device – now that should make you sit up and take notice, no?

Other parts of the patent include focus on bezel gestures mostly, where they will certainly bring a totally new way of getting your tablet game on. Take for example, the Off-Screen Gestures to Create On-Screen Input which will make use of your bezel as well whenever you perform a gesture, covering single-touch gestures, multi-finger same-hand gestures, and multi-finger different-hand gestures.

How about Radial Menus with Bezel Gestures that will touch (pun not intended) on Radial menus? Those should be different and refreshing to look at from the standard square and rectangular menus that we’re so used to these days, while Multi-finger Gestures can be extended for use on multiple screen devices, now how about that? At least it is something we’re familiar with – multi-finger gestures, that is.

No idea on when these patents will be approved, if ever, but we rest easy knowing that innovation is not quite dead yet.
