LG and General Motors team up to deliver electric vehicles in more countries

General Motors as well as LG have worked out an agreement, where their partnership will involve developing electric vehicles together which will see action across different countries. What roles does LG play in this synergy? Well, the South Korean conglomerate will supply the necessary lithium ion battery cells and battery packs required to move the Chevrolet Volt around, as well as the European edition of the Volt which will be known as the Opel Ampera.

In the coming months, do expect engineers from both sides of the divide to come together, working on various components of electric vehicles such as vehicle structures and architectures. We are not surprised to see GM and LG come together just a few days after Ford and Toyota announced their partnership in a joint technology development program that will see the end goal of rolling out a new rear-wheel-drive hybrid powertrain which will appear in light-duty trucks and SUVs, all in the name of cost cutting.

Apart from the Chevy Volt and Opel Ampera, GM also has a Cadillac coupe known as the ELR in the pipeline which will rely on the similar extended-range electric powertrain. If you’re on the lookout for an electric vehicle, which model are you targeting?
