HTC Status in mid-life crisis?
There were whispers earlier in the day that AT&T might just pull the HTC Status smartphone – which is essentially a Facebook phone powered by the Android operating system, sporting a dedicated Facebook button at the bottom which allows you to access your favorite social network with but a single push. It seems that those whispers are unfounded, however, as AT&T mentioned that the HTC Status is a “great product” and the mobile carrier does intend to keep it as “part of our portfolio”, although for how long, they didn’t say.
Insiders and those in the know claim that HTC’s Status is the owner of some disappointing sales figures, as it failed to sell as much as what some quarters expected. Perhaps the candybar design with a QWERTY keyboard ain’t that hot, or folks are more than happy with whatever Facebook plug-ins and apps that appear on other smartphone models that a dedicated Facebook button does not really add any more value. What do you think?
