FEMA Android app arrives just in time for Hurricane Irene

FEMA appThere’s an app for everything – yes, including one for surviving the impending Hurricane Irene that’s scheduled to hit tomorrow. The folks at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have just released an app to help the public deal with such situations. The app contains preparedness information for different types of disasters (so it’s not just for hurricanes) so that users know how to prepare themselves and deal with them.

The app contains an interactive checklist for making your own emergency kits, a section to plan emergency meeting locations, information on how to stay safe and recover after a disaster, a map with FEMA Disaster Recovery Center locations and Shelters, and a list of things the public can do to get involved before and after a disaster. The FEMA app is currently only available for Android devices, though we can expect it to arrive on other platforms in the future. Head over to the Android Market to download the app for your phone now and if you’re living on the East Coast, start preparing for the hurricane.
