It looks like the Chinese aren’t good for only selling imitation smartphones and tablets – according to reports online, they’re even getting away with creating fake books now. The official Steve Jobs biography is set to be released later this year, but if you wander the bookstores in Taiwan now, you’ll be able to pick one up for about $8 – albeit it won’t be the real deal, though that hasn’t stopped the book from being rated one of the top 5 best selling financial books in a Taiwanese book store named KingStone. It has sold over 4,000 copies and made about $39,000 (over 1 million New Taiwan dollars) so you could say it’s doing pretty well.
The book was launched earlier this year in April, and was claimed to be translated by a person named John Cage. While it’s definitely not the official Steve Jobs biography, the Top 3 Taiwanese stores selling the book have claimed that the book’s publisher showed them proof of the book’s authenticity, which means that it is authorized and they won’t be pulling it off the shelves just yet. But the Consumer Protection Commission department of Taiwan is performing an investigation to see whether the publisher is telling the truth – and if they’re not, they’ll be getting into big trouble. If you’re interested in purchasing the book online, you can do so here.
