Robotic hand looks realistic, shakes like the real deal, too

The SQUSE robot hand has been around for quite some time already, dating all the way to 2009 – and in today’s fast paced world, that is quite a long time. Well, no idea on whether improvements have been incorporated into this year’s model, but recently, at IFPEX 2011, the SQUSE robot hand has made an appearance, too.

Relying on a bunch of pneumatic actuators so that it can mimic the human hand muscles to make each handshake a realistic experience, the SQUSE robot hand is even smart enough to know how much pressure to apply – such as manipulating sushi without causing any damage to them.

We have heard that the SQUSE robot hand will not enter production, which is a sad thing since we could be one step closer to Anakin Skywalker replacing his severed limbs with something realistic like this. Ah well, perhaps the future will bring about a change of mind, and politicians might be able to employ a few of these the next time they go on a walkabout to greet their voters.
