Mozilla BrowserID: so you don’t have to remember countless passwords

There are so many web services available right now, with each one requiring a separate login to use. And while we know it’s not wise to use the same password for all your different accounts – it’s just so difficult to keep track of all your different passwords, especially when writing them onto a piece of paper and sticking it onto your monitor isn’t a good idea.

There have been a number of aftermarket solutions available for download but if you’re logging in with a computer that isn’t your own, you don’t have those programs to keep track of your passwords for you. Hence, Mozilla has come up with a solution of its own called BrowserID. Working similarly to Facebook Connect – it provides users with a “one login for every service” feature. However, it will require websites to implement BrowserID as part of their login process. If they don’t, it’s pretty much not very useful.

However, BrowserID does claim to have some benefits over multi-login services like Facebook Connect. It is secure, and it doesn’t keep track of where you’ve been logging in or what you’ve been doing with the account – a big plus if you’re not a fan of having your online history being recorded. However we’ll just have to wait and see if it gets adopted by the internet. Watch a video introduction of BrowserID:
