The folks at GSM Arena reported that the preview unit they had only recorded 1080p video at 24fps, so this bump is definitely an improvement. What’s strange is that LG hasn’t been bragging about the feature, and have been marketing its video recording feature at 24fps instead. A marketing error? Or is the company lowering expectations to impress people? Regardless of the reason, this just means Optimus 3D users will get to shoot higher quality videos with the phone.
That said, keep your expectations to realistic levels: in terms of quality, the small lens and sensor are the main obstacle. Even if the processor can churn 1080p videos, the quality can’t be higher than what the sensor sees through the lens. Just look at the size of the lenses on camcorders and you’ll quickly realize that there is physically no way that a smartphone can “see” more light.
