Gmail users on Android will be pleased to know that Google has released a new version of the app. The update brings Gmail on your Android device up to version 2.3.5 and has some new features to improve your Gmail experience. One of the best new features of 2.3.5 is the ability to select label specific notifications.
This means that you can choose to be alerted only when you have new emails for your selected labels. An extremely handy feature when you’re the kind of person who receives tons of email all the time but only want to be alerted about the important ones. In addition to label specific notifications, there is also the feature to only sync priority mail – which leaves your unimportant messages on the Gmail server for you to check when you get back home and log onto your computer.
There are other minor improvements like “show pictures” for senders and the usual bug fixes. You can head over to the Android Market to grab the latest version of Gmail for Android if your phone hasn’t alerted you about the update yet. Unfortunately this new version of Gmail is known to cause compatibility issues with 3rd party apps (i.e. unread mail count widgets etc) so upgrade at your own peril – or wait for your favorite apps to upgrade first before getting the new Gmail.
