It looks like Facebook is out to make its Places service a much better experience for its users. The company has been reported to be testing new features to help improve the location database that powers Facebook Places (Facebook’s version of Foursquare – where people can check into places/events to let their friends know where they are or just to keep a history of where they’ve been) and to get deals.
Facebook now has a Places Editor app that allows its users to help improve the service by flagging duplicate Places, and tagging a Place by its category and type. With practically an infinite number of locations and so many users – there’s bound to be duplicates and badly tagged locations throughout the service. The staff at Facebook can’t possibly keep track of everything that’s going on, so enlisting the help of its users to make it a better service seems like a great idea. How many of you are regular Facebook Places users, and what made you choose it over another location based service i.e. Gowalla/Foursquare?
