Well, In-plane Switching (IPS) that was developed by Hitachi half a decade ago was meant to be a solution to poor viewing angles as well as poor color reproduction of TN panels back in 1996, and IPS technology involves the crystal molecules being moved parallel to the panel plane instead of being perpendicular to it. This simple change will reduce the amount of light scattering in the matrix, letting IPS panels have better wide viewing angles and superior color reproduction.
The Dell UltraSharp U2412M will carry 24″ of IPS goodness, with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a base that can tilt, swivel, height, or pivot to either landscape or portrait orientations at your whim and fancy. Other hardware specifications include a contrast ratio of 1,000:1, an 8ms grey-to-grey response time and 300-nit brightness. You can always hook up other devices over DVI-D, DisplayPort or VGA connections. It will retail for $399 a pop, which is not too far removed from LG’s own IPS panel.
