The Olympus PEN E-P3 is the new flagship PEN camera with interchangeable MICRO Four Thirds lenses featuring a new Live MOS image sensor and a new image processing engine (TruePic VI Image Processor). I personally really like the design of its full metal body which is reminiscent of the traditional analog reflex cameras from the seventies.
The most noticeable feature is the super fast auto-focus with 35 separate focus points and the shutter response time of less than 60 milliseconds! I saw a demo during the briefing and it was very impressive. According to Olympus, it is the “World’s fastest”, it is even better than some high end Canon DSLRs (as of today). The new TruePic VI Image Processor, designed specifically for the Olympus PEN, features Real Color Technology for improved color reproduction and faster speeds.
The PEN E-P3 boasts a new 12.3 MP Live MOS Sensor, enhanced low-light performance with AF illuminator and 12,800 ISO, 3-inch OLED Touch Screen (614K pixels) and full HD video capture (AVCHD or AVI – fine mode at 20 mbps!). From the Touch Screen users can access tons of features very easily, thanks to the re-designed cool touch interface. The complete specifications are available on the product page.
The Olympus PEN E-P3 will be available in black, white and silver, starting in August 2011 for $899.99 (either with the MSC M. Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm II R f3.5/5.6 Zoom Lens or the MSC M. Zuiko Digital ED 17mm f2.8 Prime Lens)
It comes with thePEN E-P3 body, lens, USB cable, video cable, BLS-1 Li-Ion battery pack, Li-Ion battery charger, shoulder strap, OLYMPUS software CD-ROM, manuals and registration card.
