More LG devices should get DivX Premium very soon. Premium is the highest level of DivX certification which means the ultimate DivX files compatibility. At the moment, Blu-Ray players and other storage-related LG products have featured DivX (although maybe not in its “Premium” form). However, LG has declared that it intends to extend the use of DivX to in-car entertainment, set-top boxes and of course tablets and smartphones.
The timing is about right as each category above has, or should have soon, enough power to play the highest quality DivX files. For end-user, the Premium DivX logo should mean that there won’t be any compatibility problems with any type of DivX files. It’s a big deal… mainly because when you download a DivX file from… “the web”, you never know how it’s been encoded.
If you’re not familiar with DivX, the company has made a name for itself with the DivX codec, which was one of the best option to encode video when it came out. DivX shares some common ancestry with MPEG4. The company was then acquired by Rovi.
