Immersive Cocoon offers superior 3D experience

Stereoscopic 3D movies haven’t really caught on in the cinemas, presumably after the novelty has worn off, although there are many movie studios who still churn out 3D versions of their movies just to cater to a select group of market. Here is something that might just bring the 3D movie watching experience to the comfort of your own home in a way like never before – the Immersive Cooon concept from design and advertising firm NAU, where it is touted to deliver a sense immersion without the 3D.

NAU’s concept will be vastly different from headgear goggles, but will instead place you within a four meter diameter carbon fiber sphere that boasts a 360 degree interior dome-display.

The dome itself will come with sophisticated motion-sensing software that will receive assistance from motion capture cameras, motion-sensing floor panels, surround sound and even air conditioning. Imagine navigating through a recreated Pompeii, the imagined Atlantis, or even the lost world, where you will manipulate your environment Minority Report-style with hand gestures and body movements.

No idea on when such a concept will materialize though. One thing’s for sure, it ain’t gonna be cheap when it comes out.
