HTC Desire to get Android 2.3 Gingerbread after all

HTC UK must have weighed the considerable list of opinions and rants from HTC Desire owners to make a 180-degree turn from their decision not to release the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for said smartphone – which is quite surprising considering the 24 hour turnaround time. As you can see above, HTC UK’s Facebook page has mentioned that “Contrary to what we said earlier, we are going to bring Gingerbread to HTC Desire.”

Any idea on why there was this turnabout? Was it due to consumer pressure, or could it have been a publicity stunt on HTC’s side to see the reaction of HTC Desire owners before deciding whether it was worth it or not to roll out the Gingerbread update? We won’t really know at the moment (or perhaps, forever), but at least it goes to show that you still have a voice on the Internet.
